I don't really know what to suggest, maybe turning the ipad off and on again or try re-downloading the app to get rid of the waiting. Have you tried syncing your iPad with your computer to maybe delete the waiting? I've submitted a patch to Apple for review which will resolve the problem. In the mean time, if you've paid for the app you can fix it by playing the Time Attack mode - after playing Time Attack, the Standard and Mix + Match modes work fine.
